Last Saturday, November 11th, EcoAtivo, together with the Ambiente group from Cova da Beira Converge, organized a planting of acorns, along with some cork oaks and hollies, in the parish of Belmonte.
This activity brought together around 8 volunteers from the Cova da Beira area, motivated to help regenerate our region. Over 50 potential trees were planted in the space of 3 hours, on a day of good weather and good conversations about behavioral changes in our society that would benefit the environment.
The activity began with a brief explanation of the chosen species, ways to preserve acorns, and guidance on the sowing and planting method to be used. Sowing zones were marked out, excluding areas with a concentration of pine trees due to soil acidity, and priority was given to protective lines against potential future fires.
After this time spent connecting with the land, the lunch break brought a sharing of creative dishes and rich, nourishing conversation.
After the meal, we moved on to the second part of the day’s program: the 10th Cova da Beira Converge gathering, held at Casa da Torre de Caria, with reflection and sharing among working groups, followed by a presentation from various representatives of national cooperative projects.
